6 Therapeutic Benefits of Red Light Therapy

    DanielBy DanielJanuary 5, 2022Updated:January 19, 2022No Comments3 Mins Read

The potential health benefits of light therapy are not new to us. Light was used in the late 19th Century to help treat skin tuberculosis (TB), and astronauts used it in the 80s to grow plants in outer space.

Fast forward to the present day, and light therapy is steadily growing in popularity, and for good reason. It helps people fight against acne, inflammation, and signs of aging using just light technology and as such, is popping up everywhere in professional skincare treatment regimens.

But how exactly can a device that emits bright lights help you get a clearer and more radiant complexion? Below is a breakdown of what red light therapy is as well as six benefits it promises to deliver.

    What Is Red Light Therapy

Red Light Therapy, or RLT, is a contemporary form of therapy that uses low-level red wavelengths to treat skin issues such as wrinkles and acne. The light targets the mitochondria in your cells, stimulating cell growth in the process to generate new and fresh cells to rejuvenate the skin. See more here if you’re looking for a red light therapy device.

Here is a list of six potential benefits of red light therapy that promise to change the face of laser therapy and make skin damage and wound healing a much more pleasant journey.

    1. Anti-inflammatory Benefits

Research findings show that RLT has massive anti-inflammatory benefits, which opens up red light therapy to many healing possibilities. People with conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, Type 2 diabetes, and arthritis would greatly benefit from RLT’s anti-inflammatory properties.

    2. Pain Reduction

People suffering from musculoskeletal disorders can do some RLT. The therapy has been seen to relieve the pain caused by such disorders and, although the treatment is still new, researchers say that with consistency, patients will benefit from its pain relief properties.

    3. Enhancing Bone Recovery

RLT has been reported to speed up the healing process of people suffering from facial bone defects. Although still in the preliminary stages of testing and research, Red Light Therapy may have the potential to accelerate facial healing with minimum pain and inflammation during the recovery process.

However, further studies are being conducted to understand the exact effectiveness of the treatment.

    4. Promote Hair Growth

An experiment discovered that people with alopecia who had used RLT recorded higher hair density after treatment compared to those who used alternative treatments. This was based on a study to explore the effect of low-level light on people with hair growth disorders.

While the results from the study were rather compelling, scientists are keen to do further research to support these findings.

    5. Improving Skin Health

By treating acne and reducing wrinkles among many other properties, people have turned to RLT as a means to rejuvenate their skin. The use of light therapy on smaller skin issues has proven effective in clinical testing and some doctors have already invested in the treatment itself.

    6. Wound Healing

Red light therapy has also been proven to accelerate the healing of wounds. Through increasing collagen in the skin and stimulating the formation of new blood vessels, light therapy can play a major part in recovery speed from accidents, especially in professions such as sports.

    Winding It Up

Red Light Therapy is still a relatively new concept and, while these benefits are a milestone in human medicine, there is still plenty of research that needs to be done. Nevertheless, it promises to be a solid step into the future of pain relief and cosmetic therapy; a much better alternative than we could have ever imagined.
